The NRLMSISE-00 atmospheric model has been implemented as an iPhone/iPad app by Alan Hedin and is now available in the Apple App Store under the name "MSISatmos". The user can get results for chosen conditions, make simple line plots, or simple contour like plots. Comments or suggestions are possible through a website linked from the App Store description or the App itself.

The CEDAR Science Steering Committee solicits workshop session proposals for the June 24-28 meeting in Boulder, CO DUE FRIDAY MARCH 1 via the workshop proposal form on-line.
These sessions should support the goals of the NSF CEDAR program and the theme of the 2013 meeting, which is to identify and address the grand challenges in the science disciplines that fall into the CEDAR domain.
Sessions should address the science priorities in the field of aeronomy and space physics for the upcoming decade described by the recent Decadal Survey for Solar and Space Physics from the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) (see http://sites.nationalacademies.org/ssb/currentprojects/ssb_056864 and the NAS Report in Brief and also the 2013-2022 Decadal Briefing to the CSSC) . Sessions should identify a particular science challenge and outline an approach to meet it. Successful sessions will address 1) how the associated questions will be addressed, 2) what resources exist, are planned, or are needed, and 3) how progress should be measured. The justification for the sessions should also relate to the 2010 CEDAR Strategic Plan.

Workshop contributors should be apprised of the session goals and encouraged to contribute directly to the effort. Workshop reports will be required within 60 days of the end of the workshop and will be published in the CEDAR Post and archived on their individual workshop pages on the CEDAR wiki for the 2013 CEDAR Workshop.

NEXT-GENERATION SUBORBITAL RESEARCHERS CONFERENCE (NSRC) 2013

NSRC-2013 will be the fourth in a series of three-day topical meetings held since 2010 for the next-gen suborbital research and education communities.
The meeting is designed to educate researchers and EPO professionals about the capabilities of the new generation of commercially-available reusable suborbital vehicles, funding and flight opportunities for flying experiments on these vehicles, and the kinds of experiments various research communities--including microgravity physics, astrophysics and planetary science, life sciences, and atmospheric science--are planning. The meeting includes a NASA night.
NSRC typically has over 400 attendees. Confirmed keynote speakers for 2013 include NASA Deputy Administrator Lori Garver, Commercial Spaceflight Federation President and former NASA astronaut Mike Lopez-Alegria, and FAA Associate Administrator George Nield. This year's meeting will be held June 3-5 in Broomfield, Colorado. The abstract deadline is 7 March.

NASA Postdoctoral Program Fellowships
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) supports NASA’s goal to expand scientific understanding of the Earth and the universe in which we live.
Selected by a competitive peer-review process, NPP Fellows complete one- to three-year Fellowship appointments that offer scientists and engineers unique opportunities to conduct research in fields of science relevant to NASA.
These opportunities advance NASA’s missions in Earth science, heliophysics, planetary science, astrophysics, space bioscience, aeronautics and engineering, human exploration and space operations, and astrobiology. Opportunities are available at NASA Centers and other NASA- approved sites.
As a result, NPP Fellows contribute to national priorities for scientific exploration, confirm NASA’s leadership in fundamental research, and complement the efforts of NASA’s partners in the national science community.
U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, and foreign nationals eligible for J-1 status as a Research Scholar may apply. Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent degree before beginning the fellowship, but may apply while completing the degree requirements. Applicants who earned the Ph.D. more than five years before the deadline date are categorized as Senior Fellows; all applicants, no matter their category, must apply and become eligible for an NPP award via the same process.

Ph.D Student Position in Engineering Physics available Fall 2013, emphasizing Gravity Wave Dynamics in the MLT Region, at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU).
The Department of Physical Sciences at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) at Daytona Beach, FL invites applicants for the 2013 Ph.D. graduate study program. In particular, an assistantship is available for a thesis project on the small-scale dynamics of the mesosphere and lower thermosphere (MLT) region. This project will focus on the study of gravity waves, their effects on the MLT, and their perturbations to minor species and airglow layers. It will include both numerical modeling (including model development) and observational data analysis components. The successful applicant will enjoy working and learning within a collaborative research environment, comprising theorists, modelers, and experimentalists, internal and external to the University.
It is recommended that applicants will have a recent MS degree in physics, atmospheric sciences, engineering, or a related discipline. Applicants should have experience and strong interest in atmospheric or space physics, or computational fluid dynamics. Skills in programming and numerical data analysis are required (preferably FORTRAN, C, MATLAB, or Python).
The graduate program provides $20,000 annual stipend, with a full tuition waiver. PhD Scholarship at DTU Space at the Technical University of Denmark: Modelling the Magnetic Field of the Polar Electrojet
DTU Space invites applications for a PhD position starting as soon as possible. Application deadline is 17 March 2013.
The Earth’s magnetic field is important for navigation and for geophysical investigations of the Earth interior. However, magnetic fields from electric currents flowing in the Earth’s ionosphere, if not properly accounted for, can disturb magnetic navigation or precise determination of the main and crustal magnetic field. The polar electrojet is one of the strongest sources for magnetic field variations. The highly fluctuating magnetic field signatures have strong influence on magnetic measurements at ground level in e.g. Greenland, Iceland or Norway. A model of the magnetic signature of the polar electrojets will implicitly track the position, direction and strength of the polar electrojet and will allow the calculation of its geomagnetic effects on regional scale.
DTU Space has world class expertise in geomagnetic field modelling and privileged access to geomagnetic data both from the Arctic and globally. The PhD student shall, on the basis of time series of magnetic data obtained by satellites and ground stations, derive a regional model of the electrojet’s magnetic field. The integration into global geomagnetic field models describing also the core and crustal magnetic field will enhance the predictability of the geomagnetic field considerably. The work involves time series analysis and numerical modelling, as well as publication and presentation of results. The position will be filled as soon as possible.

Approval and Enrolment, Salary and Appointment Terms
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years. The starting salary (for a newly graduated MSc) is approximately DKK 29.000 gross (including approximately DKK 3.500 for pension contribution), or US$ 5.300, per month. The study will be based at DTU Space on the DTU Campus in Lyngby, approximately 15 km north of central Copenhagen.

The Physics and Astronomy research group, Space Physics Unit, at Universidade do Vale do Paraiba (UNIVAP), invites applications for two postdoctoral positions in Space Physics and Aeronomy.
The successful applicant will be responsible for pursuing research using the UNIVAP Space Physics Observatory network. Experience with ionosonde, All-Sky imaging system and GPS (TEC) will be particularly valuable, as will be strong analytic and programming skills. Duties will include participate in experimental campaigns, acquiring and processing data, developing new methods for data analysis, estimation, and interpretation, and synthesizing findings in seminar and conference presentations and journal publications. The successful applicant will also be expected to interact with undergraduate and graduate students affiliated with our research group.
