The Center for Geospace Studies at SRI International is seeking applications for a post-doctoral scientist to work with incoherent scatter radar data from the Sondrestrom Research Facility (SRF), Poker Flat Incoherent Scatter Radar (PFISR), and Resolute Bay Incoherent Scatter Radar (RISR-N). Independent but collaborative scientific exploration will be the primary focus of the post-doctoral position. Some element of user support will also be required. Interest or experience in writing research proposals to obtain independent funding is also desired.

The successful applicant should have recently completed a Ph.D. in the space sciences or a related discipline and should have experience with the analysis and interpretation of atmospheric, ionospheric, and/or magnetospheric data sets. Experience with incoherent scatter data specifically is not a requirement but would be of use. A well-reasoned research plan and its relevance to collaborative research amongst the SRI upper atmospheric facilities will be the primary criteria for evaluation of candidates.

This is a two-year position but has the possibility of extension or transition to a permanent position.

Evaluation of the candidates will focus on the skill shown in clear communication, the ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals, and a desire for collaborative research.

Responsibilities and Opportunities for Growth - Scientific studies with ground-based ISRs and other instrumentation. - Data analysis and interpretation. - Publication of scientific studies in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at conferences - Interaction with scientific staff and users.

Requirements - PhD in the space sciences or a related discipline. - Experience performing data-driven scientific studies of the atmosphere, ionosphere, and/or magnetosphere. - Experience with Python, Matlab, and/or other scientific programming languages. - A solid publication record in peer-reviewed journals. - Good collaboration and presentation skills.
